Signature Adventure Day 5 and 6:
Main Tahuayo Lodge -> Research Center Lodge
After breakfast, you will depart with your guide to the remote research center lodge. On the boat ride over we stop often to see bats, sloths, monkeys, raptors, and toucans. It will take all of the morning to make it to the research center lodge, and so lunch will be provided upon arrival. After lunch, and for the rest of your stay at the research center lodge, you would be hiking with your guide through the various ecosystems that surround the lodge. On days where you decided to stay out for the full day, a lunch would be packed for you to take a long with you.
The rainforest here is more pristine, and guests often see rare wildlife that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. With 100 km of hiking trails, laid out in a grid to facilitate the scientific collection of population data, there is never a lack of paths to follow. The trails go through several ecosystems, including bajial, high and low restinga, palm swamp and terra firme. On any of the hikes, you may see many different species of monkeys, including brown and white capuchins, saki monkeys, titi monkeys, squirrel monkeys, pygmy marmosets, moustached tamarins, saddle-backed tamarins, and sometimes uakaris, as well as giant tayra weasels and tamandua anteaters. Data collected from camera traps also reveal a high density of jaguar live here but these are rarely seen. Boating the various lakes and rivers from the research center we often see caiman as well as the highly endangered giant river otters.
