Morning departure, passing through the Masai Steppe filled with many picturesque African villages as well as maize, coffee and banana plantations. At the town of Makuyuni we turn North West and continue the journey up through a scenic escarpment that brings us to our lodge, perched on the edge of the rim of Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest volcanic crater. After breakfast we descend with a picnic lunch through the early morning mists and 2,000 feet into the crater. Ngorongoro Crater is the World’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Due to its size and diversity, the crater floor is comprised of several distinct areas, ranging from forest, swamps, lakes and springs, to open grassland and some sandy dunes. It’s an awesome wildlife experience. Lunch is served near a small lake filled with hippos. We then continue game viewing before returning to the crater’s rim and your lodge.

10 March

Morning depart down the rim of the crater into the Ngorongoro conservation zone. Visit the Olduvai Gorge and Museum of Man for lunch. It was in this site that Leakey found his first Australopithecine fossils.  Continue in the afternoon, we hope to enter the middle of the great migration, consisting of nearly 2 million animals, primarily wildebeest and zebra. Evening in Ndutu Lodge.

11 March

Full day in the Ndutu area in which is typically found the great migration. Ndutu Lodge

12 March

We travel to the center of the Serengeti National Park We should find cheetahs in the open grasslands, lions on rock kopjes, hippos in a confluence of rivers, and much more. Serengeti Serena Lodge

14 March

Departure leads us back through the Serengeti, arriving in Arusha by dinner, day rolion-king-by-gpom at the Mountain Village before late flight back home.

A representative will meet you on arrival at Entebbe airport, assist through customs without queuing and hand over to your safari guide for briefing and transfer to Boma Guest House Entebbe.

15 March

Entebbe – Bwindi.

After Breakfast, transfer to the airport in time for check and board your domestic flight to Bwindi (Departs Entebbe @ 7:00 AM & 12:30 PM, Check in time – one hour in advance). Note that flight schedules are subject to change. On arrival at Kihihi airstrip, meet your guide for a briefing and start an hour’s scenic drive to Buhoma. You will drive through villages with stops at places of interest for photography and interactions with the local communities. Lunch at the lodge. In the evening, have a village walk with a visit of the local schools hospitals and craft shops. Meals and accommodation at the Lodge.

16 March

Gorilla Tracking in the Impenetrable Forest. Tracking takes 3 to 10 trekking in Bwindi. There is an early morning entry into a gorilla sanctuary. The rainforest is spectacular, heavily vegetated and dense landscape crisscrossed by numerous animal trails, allowing access for trekkers. This park is best known for the fascinating Gorillas, where the time taken and terrain varies according to the movements of these fantastic apes. The thrill of spending time with and observing these gentle giants is a rare and moving adventure that will leave you with long lasting memories of a truly unique experience.

The Gorillas are shy and peaceful animals and it is an unforgettable experience to watch and photograph them as they interact with each other, return to the lodge in the afternoon.  Meals and overnight at the Lodge.

17 March

Pigmy (Batwa)/Community Walk or second day Gorilla Tracking

Today, you will go for a Pygmy walk – A cultural tourism activity at its best! It’s a hands-on, mind-opening adventure you will never forget as you go for an incredible day hike in the rain forest with the elderly Batwa (pygmy) guides. See how the Batwa lived and hunted, learn about medicinal plants, and watch for animals and birds. You will share a traditional meal with the Batwa, hear ancient legends and traditional songs, and join in on a mock hunting party. You can even test your skill with a Batwa bow and arrow and participate in traditional dances.

Alternatively, go for a second Gorilla trek (on payment of supplement); Meals and accommodation included at the Lodge.

18 March

scenic flight to Entebbe – Connect to international flight.

After Breakfast, start for Kihihi airstrip in time for your 9:45 AM flight arriving Entebbe Airport at 1125 AM. Depending on the weather, you may have the best views of the Volcanoes, villages and Lakes as you take off, proceed to the airport and connect to your onward international flight. Please book return flights departing Entebbe after 1pm. Note that flight schedules are subject to change.
