Angels of the Amazon, the nonprofit arm of Amazonia Expeditions, stands as a dedicated force for positive change in the heart of the rainforest. Founded by lodge owner Dolly Arevalo Beaver, an Iquitos native with a profound connection to the region, the organization emerged from Dolly’s deep understanding of the challenges faced by the local families who live in the villages around the lodges. From building new school buildings, to constructing and staffing a local hospital – AoA provides support across all aspects of life for local communities. Committed to preserving the Amazon’s delicate ecosystems and uplift the communities around them – Amazonia Expeditions and Angels of the Amazon work together to foster a harmonious balance between human activity and the precious biodiversity of the region.

Biologists refer to this region as the “green paradise” of the Amazon with some of the best wildlife viewing experiences to be found in the rainforest. Our two lodges within the 1.1 million acre Tamshiyacu Tahuayo reserve allow access to two different sets of ecosystems and the many species that call them home. With more species of monkey than any protected park or reserve in the world, and the greatest diversity of mammals and birds of any site studied in the lowland Amazon basin – you’ll find no shortage of wildlife during your stay. The reserve was originally designated by the Peruvian government in 1991, with significant support from Amazonia Expeditions, to protect the range of the rare red uakari monkey, an orangutan-like monkey with a bright red face.
