Trip Overview
The wetlands of the Pantanal region of Brazil boast the third leading abundance of wildlife in the world (behind the south-central Serengeti during migration and the Botswana wetlands). Species that are in abundance and easy to photograph there include jaguar, caiman, capybara, giant anteater, anaconda, hyacinth macaw (the world’s largest parrot) and flocks of wading birds—including the giant jabiru stork.
As an optional post-trip we will visit the Iguassu waterfalls, consisting of over 100 individual falls, set in a lush green forest, this is the most spectacular panorama of waterfalls in the world.

Full Itinerary
5 August 2024 – Arrival to CUIABÁ, BRAZIL
Reception at the Cuiabá airport by a bilingual guide and transfer to the Pantanal. The trip to the Pantanal, is a photographic safari through the Transpantaneira highway observing all the regional nature and passing through the city of Poconé. You will arrive at the lodge Pousada Piuval late afternoon for dinner and overnight.

6 August 2024 - PANTANAL
An early morning start at 5am in time to watch the sunrise in order to appreciate the spectacular flora and fauna followed by hiking in non-deciduous forest looking for animals. This will also provide an excellent opportunity for wildlife photography. In the afternoon you will go on a boat ride until sundown expecting to see Monkeys, Coatis, Otters and a variety of birdlife. Dinner and overnight at local lodge.

7 August 2024 – PANTANAL
This day you can go horseback riding in the Pantanal and hike in the afternoon. Explore the wildlife-rich river that flows next to the lodge. After dinner, a night safari drive will be organized for crepuscular creatures viewing. Overnight at local lodge.

8 August - PANTANAL
After an early breakfast, drive along a private dirt road to Bento Gomes River; to spot aquatic wildlife, birds, and flora. Nature walk through the woods to learn more about the local environment. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, drive south on Transpantaneira road to Porto Jofre (113 Km on dirt road, about 3 to 5 hours land transfer). You will have the opportunity to observe herons, egrets, ibis, parrots, parakeets, and macaws, caiman, capybaras, and possibly other wildlife such as crab-eating raccoon, fox, coati, and rheas. You will arrive at Porto Jofre late afternoon. Overnight at local hotel.

9 and 10 August - PANTANAL
Today is our first meeting with the Cuiaba River on boat. Boat trips provide an excellent opportunity to view giant river otters up close. This is often a highlight of visitors’ trips to Brazil. In the dry season, we occasionally see jaguars on the exposed beaches of the rivers – a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Other wildlife commonly seen on the river are capybara and caiman. Birds frequently encountered include kingfishers, egrets, storks, herons, and terns. We will have two full days with morning and late afternoon outings by motorboat to explore the rivers and streams. The Cuiabá River and the Piquirí River are the main two routes that we search intensively for Jaguars, Giant Otters, Brazilian Tapirs, Black-and-Gold Howler Monkeys, Brown Capuchin Monkeys, Yellow Anacondas, Black Skimmers, Hyacinth Macaws, Red-and-Green Macaws, Capybaras, Paraguayan Caimans, and other wildlife species. Additionally, we search smaller side channels as water levels permit.

11 August - PANTANAL (Porto Jofre to Cuiabá)
After breakfast the last morning outing by motorboat to explore the rivers and streams in Porto Jofre área. After lunch departure back to Cuiabá. Drive about 5 hours north Transpantaneira road. We will arrive back about 4-5 pm. Evening departing flight back home or if doing the extension, to Iguassu.

11 August – Iguassu Falls
After arrival at the International Airport of Foz do Iguassu, our English speaking guide (with name-board) will welcome you, assist you with your luggage, followed by transfer to your hotel. Overnight local hotel

12 August – Iguassu Falls
After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at the hotel for a Half Day tour to the Brazilian side of the magnificent Iguassu Falls. Following the walkways that border the canyon of the Iguassu River, it is possible to observe hundreds of small waterfalls until where the last fall Floriano Falls is reached. There you will have a complete frontal view of Devil’s Throat. In the afternoon a visit to the Argentinean side of the falls, getting in Argentina through the Tancredo Neves bridge, built on the Iguassu River. Trails through the 55.500 hectares reserve (30 km far from the Hotel) provide the pleasure of a different, more complete view of the falls, especially the biggest one, the Devil’s Throat. Lower and upper walkways permit a closer look at the waterfalls. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon; the rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in your hotel. (B)

13 August - Foz do Iguassu fly to another destination
Depending the departure time of your flight, time at leisure or optional excursions. Two hours before your flight your guide will drop you off at the airport of Foz do Iguaçu in time for your domestic flight. (B)
